This unit had been left vacant for over 6 months and showed clear signs of long-term neglect. The living room was dominated by a dark wood-paneled wall and outdated tile flooring, creating a gloomy and compressed atmosphere. Lighting was limited, and the layout lacked both functionality and modern appeal. The goal of this renovation was to reintroduce light, open up the space, and bring visual clarity and comfort back to the heart of the home.
• Demolition & Tear-Down
Removed dark wooden paneling from one side of the room, exposing the bones of the wall and ceiling.
• Drywall System
Installed new insulation and a full drywall system for walls and ceiling. Added recessed lighting fixtures during this phase to create ambient light and a modernized ceiling profile. • Surface Prep & Painting Patched seams, sanded surfaces, and applied clean, neutral white paint to enhance brightness and reflect light throughout the space.
• Flooring Upgrade
Laid warm-toned laminate plank flooring across the entire room to unify the living and dining ares, replacing the cold and uneven tiled surface.
• Furnishing & Styling Selected and assembled minimalist IKEA furniture, blinds, and small decor pieces to create a calm and inviting atmosphere, with flexibility for future residents to personalize.
Before & After Originally dark, closed-off, and dated, the living room felt cramped and uninviting. The wood-paneled wall and tiled floor created visual heaviness and made the space feel colder and smaller. Lighting was insufficient, and the layout offered little flexibility.
After renovation, the space was completely redefined: -The removal of the wood paneling wall opened up the room, allowing more natural light and better circulation. -Recessed lighting brought a modern and seamless ceiling profile. -New laminate flooring unified the living and dining areas, adding warmth and continuity. -Smoother drywall surfaces and fresh white paint brightened the room and created a clean, minimal look. -A simple, modern furniture layout emphasized functionality and comfort.
This Transformation not only enhanced the visual aesthetic, but also significantly improved the livability, layout efficiency, and spatial clarity of the apartment/s main common area.
